Aegis reports surge in college-age patient admissions, from 20% to 40% of total admissions

CANOGA PARK, California (May 26, 2011) - In a press release issued by Aegis Medical Systems today, Steve Maulhardt, VP for Policy, Government and Public Affairs, announced that Aegis’ patient census has grown by over 10% in the last six months. He further shared that the substantial part of this increase can be attributed to the influx of admissions from a less traditional and younger demographic (ages 18 to 28). The majority of this new patient population are trying to recover from addiction to Oxycontin and other prescription drugs. College-aged patients now represent 40.81% of Aegis’ census, as compared to 2006 when it represented only 21.04% of the census.

Arron Hightower (pictured above), Director of Clinical Services, stated that, “Over the last two years, Aegis has customized its services to meet the special clinical needs, as well as cultural preferences of this patient population. Furthermore, Aegis has developed specific treatment protocols and procedures to treat the most common co-occurring conditions of these patients. These include treatment for ADD / ADHD, Stress & Anxiety Management, as well as protocols for Life and Coping Skills, Family Preservation, and Vocational Rehabilitation. In addition, Aegis has expanded its scope of services to include support groups and educational programs for these patients and their parents.”

Aegis Medical Systems, Inc. operates a network of narcotic treatment programs in California. Headquartered in Canoga Park, Aegis has 25 clinics, in fourteen counties throughout the state, serving over 5,500 patients per day.
